Ferry capsizes in DR Congo, killing 78

Today (4 October 2014), foreign news agencies reported that a passenger ship full of people capsized and sank in the middle of Lake Kivu, east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), bordering Rwanda. The South Kivu governor said the ship was a passenger ferry crossing Lake Kivu from Nova to Goma and was carrying 278 people, exceeding its capacity. The ship, coupled with strong waves, caused the accident.
